Gratitude is a word that I am hearing used frequently now over the Holiday Season. This is a word that is overlooked and drastically under-rated!
When I looked high and low in every corner of each town for a new place to live, it was a little house on the outskirts of Skene which captured my heart. It was my heart that ruled and won in this decision. There were mixed responses, before I even moved in, about which house I planned to purchase, and which location. Everyone has judgments and opinions. I was not only an outsider, but also a non-Swede, this was already two strikes against me.
Since the very month that I purchased my house, started settling into a new home for me, my children and my other dependents (my cats), life has been a long serious of trials and tribulations. I have never thought it possible to have so many lessons to learn and hurdles to conqure in one lifetime, yet it has only been five years now.
Through it all I have seen some truly beautiful things here in my new little part of the world! One of the first things I noticed was the kindness of bus drivers out here. They actually take pride and see value in their jobs. They realize that their kindness is important to their passengers. Where else can a simple bus ride turn into a great start of a day, or just an overall pleasant experience?
Next I would like to mention how greatful I am to live in a community where service is still available! There are four places in particular which I have spent a lot of time being greatful for.
First is Skene Valskvarn which provides such great personal service that I almost feel as though they are family! They do not only give great service they are also kind and caring. It wasn’t until I had lived here for a couple of years already that I even knew of their existence. I, like many others, were drawn to save as many crowns as I could each month, trying to get the most for my money. Well, not only do they have some of the best prices, what little money I may spend extra on their service is really getting value for my money. There just aren’t enough good words to say about these people.
Next would be the Shell gas station. I have found that many others choose to only go there when they need help, yet don’t purchase their gas there. This is a company which still offers invaluable service, kindness and help to everyone in all situations. I proudly purchase my gas there knowing full well I could save a few crowns somewhere else, but the price would be too high. The value I get by purchasing my gasoline from a location which offers kindness and service is worth every öre.
Then thirdly, I must say that Skene Järn has been a life saver! Yes, their prices are slightly, to even much higher on some items, but the service and quality is above and beyond any other place I have been. I can walk into that store and simply want to purchase one single screw and amazingly enough I am treated with the very same respect as the customer behind me who has far more to purchase. They are knowledgeable and helpful beyond any job description.
Fourth, I can say that I feel great gratitude for our local police office and the officers who not only patrol our streets but still care truly about our safety and well-being. Over the last years I have called them on several occasions for a variety of reasons and they still treat each call as valid and important.
Already my mind is going to all of the other many places here in Mark which have left me feeling gratitude, but mostly it is the people out here for whom I feel gratitude. Sure, there are countless who have met me and turned away, but it isn’t about them. It is about me and what I can find in my life during this Holiday Season to be greatful about, and living in Mark gives me countless things to be just that, Greatful!
From a greatful outsider!
